One of the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is Voluntary Service. When clients see the outstretched hand of a volunteer, they see the physical representation of the care and compassion available to them in their darkest hour. Volunteers display the face of the American Red Cross.

Volunteers are 95% of our chapter's workforce.
Over 20,000 hours were volunteered to the Bluegrass Chapter in FY 2010 by 308 volunteers
Volunteer duties are as varied as the individuals performing them. A volunteer can be a board member, an after-hours caseworker delivering emergency military messages, an instructor for a lifesaving skills class, a disaster relief worker, or a database manager.
The Bluegrass Chapter currently has 324 active adult volunteers.
The Bluegrass Chapter also has 40 active youth volunteers.
The Bluegrass Chapter has an active Red Cross Club at Dunbar High School in Lexington. They actively assist the VA Hospital and help with our scrubby bear program.
Terry Bishop beganvolunteering with the Red Cross in 2005 during the Hurricane Katrina response but quickly became an integral part of our chapter. Since 2005, he has logged over 5,300 volunteer hours by his involvement in everything from answering the phones, to responding to after-hours calls for disaster services, to driving the ERV around the country on deployments.
